A Living Library is also collaborating with River Of Words, founded by the Poet Laureate, Robert Haas to create opportunities for student expression through words and visual arts related to the environment. This work will additionally be able to focus on the importance of global unity, connection, and peace.

A Living Library & Think Park Conceptual Master Plan has been developed in conjunction with a Steering Committee comprised of students from each grade level, teachers, administrators, parents, city agencies, and other community partners. The Plan was supported by the San Francisco Mayors Office of Community Development and Potrero Nuevo Fund of the Tides Foundation. The Plan was developed by Bonnie Ora Sherk and Life Frames, Inc., the non-profit sponsor of A Living Library and the OMI / Excelsior Living Library & Think Park.

Every part of the process of research, planning, design, implementation, use, maintenance, management, and communicating is becoming part of the interdisciplinary curricula, during the school day and in our after-school program, and is being documented through a variety of digital technologies. All of our findings and process is being translated into the OMI / Excelsior Living Library Multimedia Digital Archives, added to the Living Library Website (www.alivinglibrary.org), and linked live through various technologies to Branch Living Libraries as they emerge around the globe. There are also many other opportunities to develop additional Living Library products and processes.

DEVELOPING BRANCH LIVING LIBRARIES IN DIFFERENT COMMUNITIES

A Branch Living Library is currently being planned for Roosevelt Island, New York, located in the middle of the East River adjacent to Manhattan, where the community has about 40% of its residents associated with the United Nations. We are working closely with the schools, senior groups, art groups, and others in that community and the larger New York area to create a significant opportunity for healing as well as to create a relevant community learning environment that incorporates the local resources: ecological, built, and multicultural - past, present, and future.

We are interested in linking with other school communities around the country and world that would like to develop a unique site and culturally-sensitive Branch Living Library. There are also many other opportunities to develop additional Living Library programs, products and processes. Please contact us for more information.

ABOUT THE FOUNDER & DIRECTOR OF A LIVING LIBRARY

The Founder and Director of A Living Library and Life Frames, Inc., the non-profit sponsor, is Bonnie Ora Sherk, who has developed this systemic approach to educational and environmental transformation that integrates interdisciplinary, project-based learning, community ecological planning, sustainable design, development, and ongoing usage with sate-of-the-art communications technologies. Sherk who is trained as a landscape architect, planner, and educator, is also a professional artist, who has exhibited her work in museums and galleries all over the world. Ms. Sherk was the Founding Executive Director and President beginning in 1974 to the end of 1980.

* MEANING OF A LIVING LIBRARY, THINK PARK, AND LIFE FRAME
CONNECTING FRAGMENTS & MAKING THINGS WHOLE

The term A Living Library is a metaphor. Everyone and everything on earth is part of A Living Library of diversity - people, birds, trees, air, water - and all the things we create - parks, gardens, buildings, schools, libraries, curricula, artworks, computers, networks, businesses, ceremonies, communities - As such, it is a holistic, conceptual and aesthetic important systemic idea. A Living Library is also a Think Park, an environment meant to make us think, feel, and be more empathetic. The term, Life Frame, refers to our perception of life and all the elements that we see. The Life Frame literally frames life so we can see it and experience it better.
