A New Opportunity for Multimedia Developers:
The Landscape-Based Edutainment Center—A Living Library

The Civic Center Living Library Project (CCLLP) proposes to create a new kind
of public open space, a Landscape-Based Edutainment (LBE) Center.
Through a combination of state-of-the-art technologies, multi-generational
community outreach, and diverse programming, the CCLLP predicts
this "Living Library" can become the true, vital, "civic heart"
of the City. Aptly enough, the plan is to build this unique public
Think Park in the Civic Center.
The CCLLP plans to marry the old with the new by integrating the
historic Beaux Arts design (Civic Center Plaza, Fulton Street, U.N.
Plaza, and Brooks Hall) with themed gardens and programs, curricula,
and products that bring the resources of the area's institutions
into focus. Proposed are a Government, Law, & Justice Garden; A
Garden of the Arts; A Civic Center, San Francisco & California History
Garden; an Ecology Garden; and a rich mix of communities. Each garden
will have symbolic paintings, themed visual and performed artwork,
themed lecture programs, demonstrations, international/multicultural
gardens that would represent and involve San Francisco's diverse
communities, workshops, research institutes with community research
mentoring teams, apprenticeship training programs, holiday celebrations,
local/international products, and state-of-the-art communications
technologies. The Library's curricula will also link to local schools
from kindergarten to college. The CCLLP envisions funding to come
from government, corporations, foundations, and individuals. Its
high tech partners will receive various benefits; a showcase for
new products and services and existing assets, new marketing opportunities,
new product services, and hardware applications, and the chance
to be part of an innovative project with the City.
