Summer Plantings In A Living Library Gardens In New York City & San Francisco

Students from Roosevelt Island Public School

Summer is going to end soon ! Before green leaves turn dry brown and red, here is an update about the work A Living Library  accomplished through the summer season in our Gardens in New York and San Francisco.

In the Roosevelt Island Living Library & Think Park Gardens in New York City, students from Roosevelt Island School Beacon (PS/ IS 217) enjoyed various garden activities while learning about science and ecology during their after-school classes. Here are a few pictures capturing their enthusiasm in the RI Living Library Gardens:

We have two new effervescent souls, China Bushell as the new A.L.L. Instructor and Gardener and Emma King as volunteer in our A.L.L. team, dedicating their time and efforts towards planting and beautifying the Roosevelt Island Living Library & Think Park.

In San Francisco, A.L.L. ECO-Stewards had fun contributing to the environment while getting paid under the A.L.L. Green Futures Paid Internship Program at the OMI/ Excelsior Living Library & Think Park and the Bernal Heights Living Library & Think Park Nature Walk. Volunteer Day events on June 26 & July 10 witnessed a large group of volunteers from Salesforce turning up to help San Miguel and Denman students in the OMI/ Excelsior Living Library & Think ParkHere are a few images:

Meanwhile, the Rear Yard of James Denman Middle School has been transformed into a blooming garden of bright colors this summer. Does anyone remember how it looked earlier? The transformed environment looks beautiful with California Native Trees and Understory Plants around the new Redwood Circle, serving as a new Outdoor Classroom for students and community.

A big thanks to our A.L.L. ECO-Stewards, A.L.L. Garden Instructors, San Miguel and Beacon students, teachers, and volunteers who have helped us in the Branch Living Library Gardens this summer!
