Job Description: 

Dynamic Teachers & Gardeners For K-5 and/or Middle School in Organic Gardening / California Natives / Ecology / Multi-Arts / Technology / Literacy / Nutrition 

The dynamic, inspired, and cheerful, outdoor educator and expert gardener will be leading groups of K-5 and/or 6-8 students and teachers, in hands-on learning and doing, in organic and native gardening, multi-arts including digital media, literacy and nutrition projects, as well as leading students in researching local ecology, history, watersheds, and existing local community, including its natural, multicultural, and built resources. You will be attracting students for hands-on, learning programs, and leading gardening, related landscape, and arts activities as standards-based learning processes. You will be communicating about sustainability, ecological systems and native landscapes as well as performing community outreach activities with children and adults in ways that are fun, educational, and relevant. You will also help with some administration of program. Summers are fun! Make that fun count through learning by doing and contributing to the environment while getting paid!

A Living Library invites applications from Middle and High School students for the A.L.L. Green Futures Paid Summer Internship Program. This unique program held at the OMI / Excelsior Living Library & Think Park, on Oneida Avenue (between San Miguel Early Education School and James Denman Middle School), and the Bernal Heights Living Library & Think Park Nature Walk based at St. Mary’s Recreation Center, mentors Middle and High School students to become A.L.L. Eco-Stewards and helps them gain real-world experience in green job skills, gardening, ecology, nutrition, cooking, creative arts, and sustainable business through integrated hands-on learning program.

At Open Engagement (OE) 2018 - an annual, itinerant, artist-led conference in its tenth year, Bonnie Ora Sherk was invited as one of the five panelists at the session  “The Power of Time : Social Practice Eco Artists of a Certain Age”, on May 13, 2018 at Queens Museum, New York. The 90-minute panel was led by Linda Weintraub, curator, artist and author of several popular books about contemporary art. Bonnie Ora Sherk’s Public Talk on A Living Library at Kulturfolger, Zurich

Public Talk on A Living Library  

After a very successful opening of A Living Library Is Cultivating The Human & Ecological Garden at Parco Arte Vivente in Turin, Italy, as part of the International Exhibition, The God-Trick, the next stop was Zurich, Switzerland. Bonnie Ora Sherk was invited to give a Public Talk to introduce the concept of A Living Library to an audience of diverse residents, including artists, architects, landscape architects, educators, and representatives from public agencies.  During her presentation on May 07 at Kulturfolger, a non-profit art space in Zurich, she shared her vision to create International Branch Living Libraries & Think Parks , globally, and she spoke of the idea of developing a unique Zurich Branch Living Library & Think Park over time to involve diverse sectors of the community in the process. People were enthused and want her to come back !
